On the way home from a late valentine’s weekend, Z spotted a produce stand, so common to California rural highways, and the sign read “20 artichokes for $1.” We had to pull over and investigate. There were, in the back, some artichokes that were 20 for $1, but they were so small, they didn’t seem worth the effort. We did find some larger ones that were 5 for $1 and some other wonderful things. In all, we walked back to the car with:
- 4 large heads of broccoli
- 1 bunch of green onions
- 10 artichokes (we gave some to my Uncle, Aunt and Cousins)
- 2 small zucchini
- 2 large heads of garlic
- 2 avocados
- 5 blood oranges (time to make sangria!)
- 1 lb. of “fresh” dried apricots – wonderfully soft and squishy
- homemade salsa
- homemade guacamole
We left looking forward to a week full of fruits and vegetables.
